In the first reading, and in the gospel, God gives people a chance for a fresh start. Jesus challenges people who are accusing others to examine their own conduct first. St Paul spells out his dependence on belief in and imitation of Jesus. He says he has not yet won the prize, he has not yet won, but he is still running, still racing for the finish.
Next Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. We will try to do the week’s services as they were before Covid, with a few limitations. This will need a lot of co-operation and willingness by all to play their part in the ceremonies. There is one serious and noticeable shortfall – we no longer have ANY altar servers. It is possible to work with only two assistants, but it is a sad reflection on the parish that no youngsters are willing to help in this way. If any former servers (of any age) are willing to help, Saturday, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday, please contact me as soon as you can, if possible today. (MThurs 7.30pm, GFriday 3pm, HSaturday 8pm). If I can go on serving beyond ‘retirement age’, surely others can as well.
The Shrewsbury Diocesan Pilgrimage is happy to announce that it will be going to Lourdes this year, after the pandemic caused it to be abandoned. Prices start from £710 by air, and £440 by coach. Dates are 28/29 July to 4/5 August. For brochures and booking forms please visit the pilgrimage website www.shrewsburypilgrimage.co.uk or write to the Pilgrimage Office, 2 Park Road South, Prenton CH43 4UX.
We are sorry to announce that after 25 years of selling plants to raise money for Cafod, our supplier E. Smith and Son has stopped doing wholesale orders. The GOOD NEWS is that they have expanded their retail outlet and are open for business. You can find them on Booths Lane, off Cherry Lane, WA13 0PF. They have a wonderful selection of plants, hanging baskets and planters, all at competitive prices. Please support this local family business who have looked after us for years.
