Hello to all of you.
The feast of the anniversary of the birth of Jesus draws nearer, and the rose coloured candle on the advent wreath tells us Advent is half-way through. Rejoice, the entry verse bids us, and we read of St Paul telling the Philippians to be happy and not to worry about anything. The prophet Zephaniah tells his listeners the Lord is in your midst. John the Baptist exhorts the people and brings the Good News to them, telling them to get on with their lives but behave themselves. Last year we didn’t have the opportunity to worship the Saviour in church. These readings sound as if they are encouraging us to cast aside our fears and anxieties.
I have offered Mass for Amelia Aylin, Gwenda Bundy, John McMahon, Kathleen Bridge, FJ Wright, and in thanksgiving (Slattery).
I will make myself available for Confessions on Saturday morning (Dec. 20) from 10.00 to 10.30am. That is THE best preparation for the coming of Jesus, which happens every time we receive Holy Communion. (If there is a more convenient time for Confessions, please let me know.) In the week ahead there will be Exposition on Tuesday at 7.00pm followed by Mass at 7.30pm, and Mass on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 9.15am as usual. There will be a coffee morning after Mass on Thursday with mince pies.
I received a fulsome thank-you letter from the St Joseph’s Family Centre thanking us for the gifts and donations to help the needier families in Warrington. The ‘bin’ for gifts was filled regularly and I presume some people made generous financial donations so well done everyone.
Here is some advance notice for some events in December:
An interesting opportunity for older people to catch up on technology. Call in for a cuppa in the Hub (next to the library) and see what is on offer. There will be a course starting in the New Year.
Bishop Mark celebrates Mass in Knutsford St Vincent’s WA16 6HR to rejoice at 70 years of the Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage.
6.00pm Christmas Eve Carols followed by Mass at 6.30pm. (Rehearsal for musicians Mon 20 Dec at 7pm)
Christmas Day Mass at 9.00am and 10.30am. No Saturday evening Mass on Christmas Day, no 9.00am Mass on
Boxing Day, just the one 10.30am Mass.
There is plenty of information about your opportunity to comment on the Pope’s Synod. It is to be found on the Shrewsbury Diocesan Website, search http://www.dioceseofshrewsbury.org/news/latest-news/synod/
