The week for me has been partly days off, when I celebrated becoming an octogenarian. Thank you to all who sent me cards and goodies. I suggested to one person that now I am officially old, but she corrected me and said now according to the psalm I am simply strong. (Psalm 90 v.10 “the days of our life are seventy years, or perhaps eighty for those who are strong”). Please pray that I can act strong!
There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament here at St Winefride’s on Tuesday at 7.00pm followed by Mass at 7.30pm. There will also be Mass on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings at 9.15am. Tuesday is the feast of St Peter of Alcantara, confessor of St Teresa of Avila, and a patron of our diocese. Sunday brings a letter from our bishop. We read from one of the ‘songs of the suffering servant’ from Isaiah, and Jesus in the gospel tells the ambitious apostles that to be the greatest, you should be the servant of all. He himself was the Servant King, and we at our baptism were anointed to be kings like Christ.
We will introduce RE lessons on Thursdays gradually. The first important task is to identify any children in years 3 or 4 (a double intake) who want to make their first Holy Communion, and they will take priority. Please would parents of these young people find an enrolment form at the back of church, fill it in, and hand it to Fr Elder before half term at the latest. That date isn’t far away now. So far only two children have been registered. When we know the numbers we can arrange for suitable instruction to be given.
Mass intentions have been offered for Betty Bottwick, Mena Winefride Wright, Sean O’Cleirigh, John Manfredi, and in Thanksgiving (Kelly).
There was again a great response to the CAFOD collection, and the total so far is £438. Last weekend there were 105 people came to Mass, and £555.05 was the collection total. Many thanks. We continue to hear of cases of Covid in the vicinity, but please God the church has been and will continue to be a safe place.
A reminder that on-line copies of The Universe are available by subscription; on the notice board are details of how to obtain it, price £20 for 13 copies.
We are trying to re-establish our music for the Saturday evening Mass, and would like to increase our numbers is possible. If there are any musicians (grade 4+) who would be interested in joining the music group, please contact Annette Bourke (753321).
