Please pray for the repose of the soul of Grace Prince, who died this week. She lived in Grappenhall, and previously in Highfield Road. May he rest in peace. Her funeral is on November 9.
Thank you for real total of money donated to CAFOD which actually came to £748.61, on top of a large Offertory collection. May God bless your generosity. There is another appeal today for a contribution to the Foreign Missions, again with envelopes provided. But we have another special appeal on behalf of the Xaverian Missionary Society on November 20, so you might prefer to contribute then.
The Jimmy Cricket Night last week raised £2020. Those who went enjoyed a truly joyful occasion.
The gospel story this week is the familiar one about two people with different attitudes. One congratulates himself on assuming he is in God’s good books, and compares himself favourably with the other person, who in fact acknowledges his own sinfulness. It is the second one whom Jesus commends. The first reading similarly stresses how the Lord favours the humble person’s prayers. Paul is apparently blowing his own trumpet a bit, but he can do that being humble in all honesty. Being honest with God is the chief component of humility.
WHY NOT come and pray before the Blessed Sacrament exposed, either on Saturday mornings or on Tuesday evenings. There are few better ways of showing to God our friendship with Him.
Many have said how moving it was to venerate the relics of Saint Bernadette. Next year, will be the 90th anniversary of her Canonisation, on Dec 8th, 1933. To commemorate this, the Department for Evangelisation is planning a Conference and preparing a booklet, and would like to hear from anyone with a story to tell. It could be about the visit of the relics, or a pilgrimage to Lourdes; the cure of a friend, or a family member; or simply what Bernadette means to them. No story is too small – yours could be a source of great encouragement to others. So don’t hesitate to get in touch, either by calling Barbara Davies on 07730 526 821 or by emailing: StBernadette2033@gmail.com.
