This is one of the few Holy Days of Obligation, when the law of the Church tells us we should attend mass. There are many Church laws, which are there for a good purpose. The sanction (penalty) for disobeying them is not necessarily eternal damnation. We ‘have’ to do lots of things in life which are for our good, but it is very immature to refuse to obey them unless we are threatened with hell. Covid has done to many English Catholics what Henry VIII and Elizabeth I failed to do – it has put people off from doing the basics.
This year takes place out of doors at the United Reformed Church at 4pm on Saturday afternoon July 2. It is led by singers and musicians from Lymm Baptist Church and other churches in the area. For more information contact email@example.com.
On Sunday 26 June Bishop Brignall of Wrexham will lead the procession from the church of St Winefride in Holywell (CH8 7PN) at 2.30pm to the shrine at the site of the Well and will celebrate Mass at 3.00pm. All are welcome.
One thing Covid did spoil was the Religious Education lessons held here each Thursday afternoon. Our catechists were mostly shielding and it was not safe for children to gather without masks and social distancing. We can do something about this now – we can plan to re-introduce the lessons for September. During the next three Sundays of July, we ask parents of children up to year 6 who are not at Catholic schools to let us know that you want RE lessons, by enrolling your child(ren) on the Forms that will be available at church, and handing them in.
We can then enrol teachers and plan ahead before the summer holidays. Instructing your children to know, love, and serve God is one of God’s own laws, and not many parents are up to providing ‘RE Lessons’ themselves. ‘Them up at Church’ can only do our best to help you, but yours is the responsibility. I suspect the children have missed their Thursday sessions. Do pray about this.
Times of mass are published above. There are no more outstanding Mass intentions.
