I’ve just heard the sad news of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh. Our sympathy is with the Queen and her family. It will be hard for her. I did go to their House one day, but he couldn’t talk to me – he had 3,000 other visitors. He did let me into their back garden and gave me some salmon sandwiches. It was a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace. He, the Queen, and Prince Charles spoke to specially pre-selected guests. I thought the three of them seemed very genuine. They had impeccably behaved security men in top hats and tails. A lovely memory of a beautiful sunny June day, half a lifetime ago.
I get my second vaccination on Thursday, and on Monday I may be able to get a haircut! Please God there will be no having to replace the Covid restrictions. The return to ‘normality’ won’t be easy for any of us. Hopefully more people will decide that it is safe to come to church, and after that we will be able to put some of the chairs back. Eventually we will be able to visit one another and maybe shake hands. Our thoughts are still with those with ‘long Covid’ and people mourning a death.
Orders for plants will be required for April 11th. All details are on the form. For those needing an e-mail copy contact Angela: firstname.lastname@example.org. Plants will be available to collect on Wednesday May 12th.
It is also the time of year when we claim for tax paid by you on the donations you have made. If your circumstances have changed, or you feel you don’t wish to remain in the Gift Aid scheme, please contact Peter Thomason (01925 753732 or mobile 07720 460894) by 5 April, otherwise it will be assumed you have paid sufficient income tax to reclaim Gift Aid on donations made in the past year. We will try to deliver some of the planned giving envelopes to those still shielding. Please don’t think this is an impertinence. So many of you have gone to great lengths to pay in your offerings without the envelopes, so hopefully you will see this as a service to you.
I have offered Mass for the intentions of Mary Trotter and Michael Onanda, and for the repose of the souls of Stan Beardwood and Winifred Townson. I was happy to hear some of your reactions to the Paschal Liturgy celebrations. Those who took part helped to make them as fine acts of worship as we could manage, and enjoyable too.
We congratulate the winners of the LDCT treasure hunt. The Swetenham Family, all six of them, did our parish proud, and won an armful of Easter eggs. Well done!
