READINGS AT MASS This month we have readings from Ch 8 of St Paul’s letter to the Romans, surely one of the most beautiful chapters in the bible. It reminds us of the all-pervasive power for good that
is the Holy Spirit. The gospel continues with parables, and talks about the Last Judgement, and the images of little things that grow big. When a person dies we tend to remember the good that people did, and overlook their sins. God seems to be better at this
than us, as is described in the passage from the book of Wisdom.
WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY TODAY: Pope Francis writes to everyone this weekend and concentrates not on Joachim and Ann, parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus, but on the young person Mary
going to visit the elderly Elizabeth. He talks about kindness and respect by the young towards the old. He says the young can benefit from realising that good things can come to those who are prepared to wait and plan for them, and older people shouldn’t mourn
the loss of abilities but look forward with home and joy, of course giving support to the young and enjoying their friendship.
DIOCESAN CELEBRATION OF MARRIAGE
The popular gathering resumes after Covid. At noon on Saturday October 14 in St Columba’s Chester there will be a Mass and get-together for married couples celebrating significant anniversaries to be able to thank God together. If you would like a personal
invitation, give your contact details to Fr Elder asap for him to forward them (with your number of years married) to the Bishop’s secretary. It is intended that couples who were celebrating during the Covid years should be included as well.
FIRST COMMUNIONS The catechists would appreciate some feedback from the families involved in the recent series of lessons provided for preparation for First Sacraments. There is a form in the porch for
this if you would spare the time to fill it in.
