READINGS AT MASS – More parables from Matthew in the gospel, clearly telling us where our priorities must be. Solomon chooses the gift of discernment between good and evil, and is commended for it. But
the high point of the liturgy of the Word today must again be Ch 8 of St Paul to the Romans: ‘By turning everything to their good, God co-operates with all those who love him’ – think about it!
TODAY our thoughts and prayers must obviously be with the Diocesan pilgrims in Lourdes. We pray for the intentions of the pilgrims in the Bidding Prayers, and ask Our Lady to show her maternal care by interceding
for them and for all of us. The details of joining with them online on Sunday and Monday morning are again given overleaf.
DIOCESAN CELEBRATION OF MARRIAGE –
The popular gathering resumes after Covid. At noon on Saturday October 14 in St Columba’s Chester there will be a Mass and get-together for married couples celebrating significant anniversaries to be able to thank God together. If you would like a personal
invitation, give your contact details to Fr Elder asap for him to forward them (with your number of years married) to the Bishop’s secretary. It is intended that couples who were celebrating during the Covid years should be included as well.
FIRST COMMUNIONS – The catechists would appreciate some feedback from the families involved in the recent series of lessons provided for preparation for First Sacraments. There is a form in the porch for
this if you would spare the time to fill it in.
TELEPHONE NUMBERS
PLEASE PRAY FOR the repose of the soul of Rita Birch, of Cyril Bell Close, who died peacefully in hospital this week aged 93. May her soul and he souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Her funeral
is on August 8.
DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES –
The pilgrims leave with Bishop Mark on Wednesday/Thursday and we are asked to pray with them and for them. There is a website in Lourdes
https://www.lourdes-france.org/en/tv-lourdes/ and you can join them when our bishop presides at the underground basilica Mass on Sunday (30th) at 10.30am UK time and again for mass at the
Grotto on Monday morning at 9.00am UK time. The bishop and the Youth pilgrims go on to Lisbon on 3 August to join the Holy Father for the celebration of World Youth Day.
SUNDAY CHILDREN’S LITURGY –
It would be fantastic to bring back the popular Sunday Children’s Liturgy.
This used to take place in conjunction with the start of 10.30 Mass and conclude with the children bringing the offertory to Father and re-joining their parents. It’s a lovely time for the children where they can meet new friends and take part in drawing
and reading. We would like to set up a meeting early September for any volunteers who would like to help. We need at least 2 adults to run the class so if that’s all we have, we can only run the class on the first Sunday of the month. However, if we could
get a pool of 6 or more we can possibly run the class every Sunday and rotate the responsibility which would be ideal. Please do consider getting involved. Contact Lindsey on 07722 629713 or Rowena on 07974 006323.
